On Sunday I leave for Maine's fabled North Woods. This area is largely owned by the state, by private lodges, and by logging companies. So there are very few people - mainly spruce woods, moose, black flies and brook trout.
This a region that houses the most intact wild brook trout fishery in the eastern US. I am staying at Libby Camps - an old time Maine sporting camp that has been in the same family for 5 generations. So I am anxious to hear their thoughts on brook trout management and conservation. Their livelihood depends on good fishing, so they should have some interesting perspectives on brookie management.
This is really the end, geographically speaking, of the brook trout trail for me. I can't go any farther north in the US, and I can't find any better environment for brookies.
